As a certified and internationally recognized Yin Yoga TTC in Rishikesh, our ashram offers a refined, traditional, and highly effective approach to learning this subtle yet powerful yogic discipline. Through in-depth teachings, mindful practice, and philosophical insights, the course helps you uncover the core essence of Yin Yoga, allowing you to explore its physical, energetic, and meditative dimensions.
At Om Shanti Om Yoga Ashram, we follow a holistic and authentic teaching methodology, ensuring that you receive a complete Yin Yoga teacher training pathway. Upon successful completion, you will gain the confidence, knowledge, and certification required to teach Yin Yoga professionally, honoring the ancient wisdom and therapeutic depth of this timeless practice.
Origin of Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga finds its roots in the ancient Taoist philosophy of Yin and Yang, which represents two opposite yet complementary forces existing in harmony within nature and the human body. While Yang symbolizes activity, movement, and heat, Yin reflects stillness, coolness, introspection, and depth. Yin Yoga embraces this quieter, meditative side of the yogic path, offering balance in a fast-paced, yang-dominated lifestyle.
Unlike dynamic yoga styles, Yin Yoga is slow, gentle, and deeply introspective. The practice focuses on holding postures for extended periods—often between three to five minutes or longer—allowing gravity and mindful relaxation to work naturally on the body. Most Yin Yoga asanas are practiced close to the ground in seated or reclined positions, encouraging physical stillness and mental surrender.
The deeper intention of Yin Yoga is to target connective tissues such as fascia, ligaments, tendons, and joints, which are often less flexible and slower to respond than muscles. By holding poses for longer durations without muscular engagement, practitioners stimulate these deeper tissues, improving flexibility, joint mobility, and energetic flow throughout the body.
At Om Shanti Om Yoga Ashram in Rishikesh, Yin Yoga is taught as a harmonious blend of asana, pranayama, and meditation. Breath awareness and passive stillness guide students inward, creating space not only in the body but also in the mind and emotions. This meditative approach allows practitioners to release stored tension, observe sensations without resistance, and cultivate a deeper connection with the inner self.
Although Yin Yoga shares similarities with certain classical Hatha Yoga postures, its method of practice is distinct. Rather than striving for alignment perfection or muscular strength, Yin Yoga encourages acceptance, patience, and surrender. It teaches the art of letting go—of physical resistance, emotional blocks, and mental distractions—leading to profound relaxation and inner balance.
Rooted in ancient wisdom yet perfectly suited for modern life, Yin Yoga serves as a bridge between physical practice and meditative awareness, making it a vital component of holistic yogic training offered at Om Shanti Om Yoga Ashram.
Types of Yoga
Based on the practices and philosophy behind the practice of Yoga, it has 10 types. Some of them are not directly related to the ancient Indian form; they were later expanded. The local arts in various countries are named accordingly, e.g. Yin Yoga. All types of Yoga have a single purpose, which is the alignment of body, mind, and spirit. Here are the types of yoga according to various formal and informal texts:
Yin Yoga - It is slow in pace and targets the flexibility of the body. It targets the deep connective tissue of the body, which increases flexibility with increased practice.
Hatha Yoga - It is a slower pace yoga and good for beginners. It focuses on the physical pose and breathing practice of yoga, good for maintaining daily discipline.
Raj Yoga - It is also practised according to the Astanga Yoga of ancient Yoga. It emphasises meditation and mind control with the help of poses and focusing on a single point. It is also known as the “Royal Path” to unite with ourselves.
Bhakti Yoga - This is the path to god and does not involve physical practice; it is based on devotion to god and mantra chanting. Devotion towards the deity with all the heart is the only path to follow, based on the philosophy of Yoga.
Karma Yoga - It encourages performing duty without attachment and a selfless act from the heart. It is also mentioned as the only path to salvation in the Bhagavad Gita (Ancient Veda of Hinduism).
Jnana Yoga -It is based on the deep self-inquiry by putting up a question, and based on the path of knowledge. The path of wisdom and knowledge with which we can interrogate ourselves is known as Jnana Yoga.
Kundalini Yoga - There are some dynamic practices along with mantra chanting and meditation, which are known for awakening Kundalini Shakti. It is believed that there is high energy in the form of a serpent present in the navel of every person. This energy could be awakened by Hatha Yoga and meditation.
Vinyasa Yoga - There are some dynamic practices along with mantra chanting and meditation, which are known for awakening Kundalini Shakti. It is believed that there is high energy in the form of a serpent present in the navel of every person. This energy could be awakened by Hatha Yoga and meditation.
Iyneagar Yoga - It is first empowered by BKS Iyengar and is associated with the alignment and precision in Yoga poses. It uses small tools like props and blocks during the practice of yoga.
Ashtanga Yoga - A dynamic and physically engaging form of Yoga is mentioned in the Gheranda Samhita and ancient texts. It is also referred to as the eight limbs of yoga.
Yin Yoga - It is slow in pace and targets the flexibility of the body. It targets the deep connective tissue of the body, which increases flexibility with increased practice.
